The Glendale Community College Noncredit ESL Division has partnered with the Verdugo Jobs Center (VJC) to offer free vocational English as a Second Language classes for people who need English to speak with their co-workers, find a job, or get a better job. Our classes teach listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar with an emphasis on work.
This semester, we began offering a noncredit intermediate vocational ESL 3 class and an intermediate workplace ESL conversation class at the Verdugo Jobs Center at 1255 S. Central Avenue, in Glendale. The collaboration between the VJC and Glendale Community College has provided an excellent opportunity for students to be exposed to the services of the VJC and find jobs. The VJC provides job counseling and placement services for youth through adults. There have been opportunities for ESL students to participate in job fairs and job interviews with prospective employers. This semester, students were able to participate in a technology job fair as well as meet job recruiters.
Another added bonus is the location itself. The VCJ has a spacious lot with free parking, access to bus services, and a convenient cafe next door. The level 3 vocational ESL class meets Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 am. to 12:00 p.m. and the intermediate workplace conversation class meets on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
