Spring has sprung for Classified Council as this is the time of year for fundraisers, Classified Employees Week, student worker scholarship nominations and the Classified Council Picnic.
Our Spring See’s Candy fundraiser will be wrapping up at the time of this publication’s release, and we are grateful to all who bought the candy or helped us sell it in their areas. We cannot raise scholarship money without you!
We also had a couple of openings on our board for the rest of the 2017-2019 term. There will be an announcement to paid members once we have selected the two new members-at-large, which should be very soon!
We are extremely honored to have teamed up with Soroptimists International of Glendale to present “Human Trafficking: A Survivor’s Story” on Thursday, April 12 at 12 p.m. in the Student Center. Two speakers from CAST (Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking) will be presenting information about identifying human trafficking in our communities, and a survivor will tell her story. Flex and CPGU are available. We hope to co-sponsor more presentations with off-campus community organizations for insight into timely and relevant topics that are of interest to our students and employees. If you serve on or volunteer for a service organization that hosts informational presentations that could have relevance to the GCC constituencies, please contact me at wgrove@glendale.edu.
Speaking of students, be on the lookout in May for our announcement asking for student worker scholarship nominations. But, if you can’t wait and want to know more about the scholarship criteria, go to www.glendale.edu/classifiedcouncil. The scholarships will be awarded at the Classified Council picnic in early June.
