Chaparral 2017-2018: 26.1 Classified Council Notes

Classified Council Notes (September 2017)

Classified Council Notes

Wendy Grove

Classified Council President

Classified Institute Day was held in August, and on behalf of Classified Council, I would like to thank all of our morning session speakers and our featured presenters from Student Equity.  It was a great day, but now fall is here and that means a focus on membership.  It is time to renew your Classified Council membership if you were a member last year, or join us for the first time!  Dues are only $7 per year.

There is a membership form on the Classified Council website at  Classified Council is an organization for classified employees that provides staff development opportunities, philanthropic activities benefitting students, birthday recognition, off- and on-campus events, and opportunities to get to know colleagues.  We also have non-classified employees sign up in the “Friend of Classified Council” category.  All support is welcome.  Be sure to take a look at the photo gallery of past events that can be found on the website.

We have added a helpful new feature for members this year.  You can now check your membership status on SharePoint! Go to and enter your name. You will be able to see if your membership is up to date.

Currently, we are planning the monthly sponsored staff development presentations.  As dates and presenters are finalized, you can expect to see email announcements and posted flyers. We are always open to suggestions for topics and welcome volunteers to speak if the presentation meets our criteria. Faculty Development is scheduling events around the theme of civic engagement this year.  The Classified Council board is also hoping to focus on topics of civic engagement, with emphasis on what our college programs offer in that regard, for our presentations.

And finally, plans are also underway for our annual holiday See’s Candy fundraiser for student worker scholarships. We will likely start taking orders in November.  Prior to that, we will have a Tupperware fundraiser on the Library Patio in October.  Announcements will be coming soon. The annual holiday party at Acapulco in Glendale will be in early December and current members get a discount on dinner.  It really does pay to be a member!
