This is a final issue of Chaparral of the 2014-15 academic year and it is a time to revisit that year. It was a successful municipal election: endorsed incumbents by Guild and CSEA trustees Dr. Vahe Peroomian and Anthony Tartaglia were reelected to the Board for another four-year term.
During Spring Break classified employees had a two-day retreat filled with CalPERS workshops, Know Your Rights training and presentations by Dr. Viar, and Dr. Karpp.
Some classified employees further attended negotiations and research training, and job stewards training sessions provided by CSEA. It’s a good sign that we have many classified employees who are interested in becoming more active in representing classified employees at negotiations table and/or at the meetings with managers in the future.
In economic news, the May revise is out and it is improved except the COLA which is lower than it was in an initial proposal. The CSEA negotiations team is working on openers based on the survey of our members for the successor agreement.
The week of May 17th kicked off the Classified Employees week. The basketball game sponsored by the Classified Council was entertaining to say the least. Our annual barbecue brought together administrators, managers, and faculty to celebrate with classified employees. Thank you to administrators and managers for keeping a tradition of cooking and to Dr. Viar for sponsoring the event.
I would like to take this opportunity and thank the outgoing Guild President, Richard Kamei, for collegiate and collaborative relationship between two unions during his presidency. I would also like to congratulate Zohara Kaye, the incoming leader of the Guild.
