As the fall semester is coming to an end, there are plans in the works for spring semester activities for Classified Council. The Classified Council board welcomes input from the membership in helping us plan future lectures, scholarship fundraisers and events.
In addition to planning for spring, the board is measuring the success of fall fundraisers and events. The October lecture by Dr. Wendy Fonarow was very well-attended by classified staff as well as students and faculty. And the first-ever Classified Council Halloween Party was so much fun, we may make it an annual event. The photo booth in particular was a big hit.
Our scholarship fundraisers, including Tupperware and FlowerPower have proven successful without demanding an exorbitant amount of our board’s time. The holiday party is on the horizon at the time of this column’s deadline as is the See’s Candy fundraiser. So far, interest in both has remained high. We are fortunate to have two rather exciting raffle prizes with tickets for four to a Lakers and a Kings game, in addition to our large array of raffle items for the holiday party. Many people refer to the holiday party as the most fun event of the year, so don’t miss out.
We hope to offer more lectures and presentations that are of interest to our membership and the campus at large. If you have an idea for a presentation, please let me know. Some of the ideas being kicked around for the spring are: Bringing in a speaker from the City of Glendale to talk about drought-tolerant landscaping, and/or having some sort of fitness event (walking/jogging the track or a Fitness Center activity). I would also like Classified Council to sponsor a lecture in March related to Women’s History Month. And of course, we will have our bingo and basketball games during Classified Employees Week as well as the end-of-the-year picnic.
As it is just after Thanksgiving, I want to thank our membership, supporters and board members for everything they do for Classified Council year round. Thanks also to everyone who helps make our scholarship fundraisers successful by purchasing any of the items or buying raffle tickets.
We will not have any events during the winter session, but you can keep up with us by checking the Classified Council website at www.glendale.edu/classifiedcouncil A collage of photos from the holiday party will be added soon.
