Classified Council Corner: A Great Time of Year

by Wendy Grove

Classified Council President

This is a great time of year for Classified Council. We have planned three events so far for the fall semester including the holiday party.

As it stands, our Flower Power fundraiser has ended but we nearly reached our goal amount. And the Tupperware sale has been a success. The entire Classified Council board would like to thank those of you who purchased items at either (or both) fundraisers. It is very much appreciated by us as well as by the students who will receive the scholarships that your purchases help support. And fear not, we have one more fundraiser to go and it’s the one that raises the most money for us---See’s holiday candy. So be prepared to place orders with board members or stop by the table in the Administration Building when the time comes. You’ll be seeing more about this soon.

Besides the two fundraisers, October is a packed month for Classified Council. We are fortunate to have Dr. Wendy Fonarow back to do one of her fascinating Halloween-them lectures. She will present “Changes in Trick or Treating: The Development of the Halloween Hot Spot.” She will discuss the changes in the last 30 years of trick or treating on Wednesday Oct. 29 at 12:30 p.m. in CS 266. And on the following day, Oct. 30, there will be a costume party in the Student Center at 12:30 p.m. We will have a frightening (or frightened) photographer taking your pictures in front of a Halloween backdrop, free refreshments and lots of fun. Wear a costume!

The reservation for the holiday party has been made. We will once again be having our celebration at the Acapulco restaurant in Glendale. The date is Dec. 4, starting at 5 p.m. More information will be coming to you next month when we start taking RSVPs. Members always get a discount to the holiday party.

And remember, to take advantage of the discounted party admission and other privileges, renew your membership to Classified Council or join us as a new member for 2014-2015. Membership is open to everyone and costs only $7 per academic year. Whether you are new or returning, please fill out the membership form located on the Classified Council website. You may turn in your membership form and dues to the Classified Council mailbox in the mailroom or to any Classified Council board member.

We look forward to seeing you at the fall semester events.
