The November 4th 2014 General Election is in a couple of weeks, I would like to share with the college community the CSEA Voter guide. CSEA endorsements are based strictly on the candidates’ responses to interviews and questionnaires focused on the candidates’ records on supporting public education as well as on available records on issues that are important to classified employees.
Your vote is important in our ability to fight for more funding for schools, and to benefit our students, our schools and colleges, and public school employees.
Here is CSEA official Voter Guide:
Governor Jerry Brown
Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom
Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson
Attorney General Kamala Harris
Secretary of State Alex Padilla
Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones
Controller Betty Yee
Treasurer John Chiang
Both State Controller and Treasurer sit on the CalPers Board of Administration and, as we all know, we need people we trust to continue to protect our pensions. If elected, the candidates automatically will join Rob Feckner, CSEA Past President and Michael Bilbrey, CSEA President, on the CalPers Board. I would like to share good news about recent settlements: CalPers received $88 million in Citigroup settlement and it will get $250 million in damages from Bank of America.
CSEA supports Proposition 45 –Health Care Insurance. Rate Changes
And Proposition 47- Criminal Sentences. Misdemeanor Penalties.
There is also good news about professional development. Governor Brown signed a Professional Development bill into law. As we all know, the professional development for community colleges lost its funding in 2002. The program was providing professional development to faculty of community colleges and not to classified staff. The new revision authorizes the use of state funds for professional development of community colleges staff.
Finally, on behalf of CSEA members I thank all Veterans for services they gave and continue to give every day to our country!
