The Professors for Quality Education (PQE) met with potential Board of Trustee (BOT) candidates December 2016 thru February 2017. These candidates represented Districts that are up for the April 4th, 2017 election.
The candidates interviewed were RondI Werner D4, Victor Garcia D4, Yvette Vartanian-Davis D4, and Peter Stathis D3.
Those candidates that pulled papers within the month of January 2017 were Rondi Werner, Victor Garcia, Yvette Vartanian-Davis, Peter Stathis, Dr. Armine Hacopian D3, Ann Ransford D2.
Accepted candidates that collected the appropriate signatures needed to be “confirmed” were Victor Garcia, Yvette Vartanian Davis, Rondi Werner, Dr. Armine Hacopian, and Ann Ransford. These would be the candidates invited to the BOT Forum February 28th, 2017 located at Glendale College Campus, Kreider Hall.
The Forum was two hours of Q & A. The questions were made up from both PQE and Classified Union CSEA. All candidates were in attendance and all were impressive with their answers. Giving that the face of the campus has changed dramatically within the last 20 years, it was a refreshing change to see our current Board members address questions in a way that was passionate and inspiring to hear their responses, particularly for newer employees that may have not been familiar with them.
After the Forum, the PQE Team met to discuss recommendations for endorsements to send to its Exec team and then onto the Guild Membership. It was a unanimous decision to recommend endorsing Dr. Armine Hapcopian D3, Ann Ransford D2, and two Candidates, Rondi Werner and Yvette Vartanian-Davis of D4.
This is an important election year for the city of Glendale. This will be the first time that a representative for D4 will represent the BOT for Glendale Community College and hopefully bring a unique perspective to the Board that supports the college and unions alike.
