First, a big thanks to Dr. Wendy Fonarow, anthropology professor and friend to Classified Council, who presented her annual Halloween-themed lecture on Oct 26. This year, the presentation was “Guy Fawkes: The Political Face of Halloween,” given to a packed crowd of staff, students and faculty. It was another wonderfully engaging talk and we look forward to her lecture next year!
November is a busy month for Classified Council, we will hold our annual holiday See’s candy fundraiser for student worker scholarships. Announcements on that will be coming out soon. The candy is holiday-themed and makes great stocking stuffers or office gifts.
Our November presentation was “From Volunteering to Student Engagement,” with speakers Hoover Zariani and Nane Kakosian. The wonderful speakers took a look back at how the Multicultural & Community Engagement Center has evolved to help GCC students become more involved, engaged, and successful through the services provided. They also discussed the new programs being implemented for the future.
Though a date has not yet been determined, we will be having a members-only event at the GCC Garden. The Garden Club has offered us another opportunity to get planting tips and see what they are growing and maybe even get a few clippings. An announcement will be going out to members soon. If you are not a member, you can still join or renew!
The annual holiday party will be Thursday, December 8 at Acapulco in Glendale and members get a discount on dinner. The cost is $20 for Classified Council members and $25 for non-members.
