Fall semester activities for Classified Council are almost over, but there are plans in the works for the spring semester. The Classified Council board welcomes input from our members in helping us plan future lectures and presentations, scholarship fundraisers and networking events. We also welcome member volunteers to serve on committees and at fundraisers.
Our most recent event, The Dias de los Muertos cultural lecture by Dr. Wendy Fonarow in October, was very well-attended by faculty, staff and students. We look forward to her next presentation. Hopefully, there will be a new process established soon for applying for Classified Professional Growth Units as it was handled on an interim basis this semester.
The Tupperware and FlowerPower scholarship fundraisers were held this fall and we are currently gearing up for the Holiday See’s Candy fundraiser. By the time this Chaparral issue is available, most of you will have seen our candy offerings around campus. But just in case you haven’t seen them, there are two choices this year:
The annual holiday party fundraiser is fast approaching. The Dec. 10 event at Acapulco restaurant in Glendale is a Classified Council tradition. We have several raffle prizes, including four tickets to the Staples Center for a Kings vs. San Jose Sharks game in the San Manuel Club. We also have gift cards to Whole Foods, Ralphs, Starbucks and other great items. The Classified Council holiday party is often referred to as the most fun event of the year, so don’t miss out. Going forward, we hope to offer more lectures and presentations that are of interest to our membership and the campus at large. If you have an idea for a presentation, please let me know.
As it is almost Thanksgiving, I want to thank our membership, supporters and board members for everything they do for Classified Council year round. Thanks also to everyone who helps make our scholarship fundraisers successful by purchasing any of the items or buying raffle tickets.
We will likely not have any events during the winter session, but you can always contact any board member with event ideas and remember to check the Classified Council website at www.glendale.edu/classifiedcouncil for any updates. A new collage of photos from the holiday party will be added soon.
