The Classified Council Board would like to thank everyone who was kind enough to purchase See’s candy from us for the spring student worker scholarship fundraiser. It was a great success and enables us to award scholarships to student workers at the end of the academic year.
As always, Classified Council is a supporter of the Retirement/Recognition Luncheon that will be held in the Student Center on Thursday, May 5 at 12 p.m. There are several retirees to be honored and employees with long-term service to be recognized at the event.
In celebration of Earth Day, Classified Council is sponsoring “Meet the GCC Garden Club” on Monday, April 25 at 12 p.m. Members of the GCC Garden Club will show participants what they have been doing at the campus garden, where they grow flowers and harvest vegetables while conserving water, composting and using other environmentally sound practices. Those interested in attending can meet at the San Rafael coffee stand at 11:55 a.m. and we’ll walk as a group up to the garden. The Garden Club will share tips and best practices and answer questions. Don’t miss this chance to learn more about a campus gem.
Based on informal queries to Classified Council members, it appears that of the off-campus activity ideas proposed at the beginning of the semester, walks at Brand Park had the most positive response. It’s free, not too far from campus and is open after work hours, at least long enough to enjoy a refreshing walk and the company of co-workers. A date has not been set yet, but members will be notified once we get the logistics of time, date and meetup location worked out.
May is a busy month for classified activities as Classified Employees Week is May 16 to 20. Classified Council will again sponsor a basketball game in the Verdugo Gym on Thursday, May 19 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Teams are being formed now. For details on signing up to play in the game, contact Austin Kemie at akemie@glendale.edu. We also need spectators, so do come out to watch what is always an entertaining game. Bingo games will again be part of the week’s festivities with date, time and location to be announced.
Student worker scholarship applications will be requested in May and the scholarship committee, made of up volunteer members of Classified Council, will be formed.
