I hope you’re all doing well as we settle into another fall semester at GCC – and another strange year of navigating different modalities. This fall, GCC is offering online, remote synchronous, and face-to-face instruction, making it a particularly unique and unusual semester for everyone. As the pandemic evolves, so too do the challenges we face in continuing to respond to the health crisis while effectively serving our students. By now, I’m sure most of us had hoped things could be “back to normal,” but normal continues to look very different from how it used to.
In spite of this, we continue to forge ahead, meeting our students where they are, innovating, and helping each other, our colleagues, through these difficult times. I hope Chaparral is one of those bright spots in providing important information, insight, and helpful tips as we navigate through another strange year.
In this issue, we have updates on accreditation, new legislation, Zoom etiquette, and more; as well as wellness tips, conversations with colleagues, and even some poetry.
You may notice there are two beloved items missing from this issue: our Milestones and What Are You Reading? columns. I don’t know about all of you, but I fear my pandemic scatterbrain has reached maximum scatter: sending out the call for these roundup columns simply escaped me over the past month of diving into the semester. I hope you’ll forgive this oversight, and I look forward to catching up on everyone’s milestones and recent reads for our October issue!
I’ll try not to beat myself up for letting these columns slip this month, and I hope you, too, will be kind to yourselves, as I’m sure I’m not the only one who has experienced pandemic scatterbrain. Remember that you are doing your best in extraordinary times. We all are.
