Faculty United
Spring Ahead

I often like to conduct my daily guided meditation sessions from the Ten Percent Happier app outside on my patio in spring. I love hearing the cacophony of birdsong while my eyes are closed and when I open my eyes at the end of a session, the garden seems even more verdant than before I closed them. It’s like seeing the world anew.

As we move from pandemic to endemic, this is an opportunity to see the world anew. We have all had to make changes, some more drastic than others, and have learned new skills to manage and survive this turbulent time. I hope you can reflect on these past two years we’ve spent mostly at home and think about the ways these changes have impacted you personally and professionally.

This spring semester finds our state budget healthy and campus community in a state of flux not only with Dr. Viar’s retirement and a search for a new Superintendent/President, but we’re looking at healthcare proposals from the JPA, Self-Insured Schools of California, with fresh eyes and negotiating a new normal of how we deliver high quality education to students while preserving modality choice and maintaining a work-life balance. The Guild is sponsoring two Hyflex townhalls just for Guild members on these topics and I hope you can join us:

Future of Remote Work Townhall
Friday, 3/25 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Kreider Hall
(a Zoom link will be sent out ahead of the meeting for remote attendance)

JPA Presentation with Q&A
Friday, 4/1 12:30-2 p.m. in Kreider Hall
(a Zoom link will be sent out ahead of the meeting for remote attendance)

A Hyflex public forum with the Superintendent/President finalists will be scheduled the week of March 28th, so please be on the lookout for that announcement. By the time this article is published, you should have received a solicitation for questions from me for this forum.

Let’s embrace the changes we have made, celebrate the opportunity of forward momentum, and soldier on with boundless possibilities.
Happy Spring, everyone!

In Unity,
Emily
