The spring semester is moving along quickly and with talk turning to finals and graduation and all that the end of the academic year brings, it is looking good for the return of the Classified Council Student Worker Scholarships! We were unable to present scholarships to student workers when there were few or none on campus during the pandemic. But we were able to continue raising funds for the scholarships and we can once again bestow them on the very deserving student workers. I can’t thank those who contributed to our fundraisers enough. We couldn’t do this without the support of staff, faculty and administrators.

We will most likely not be having our traditional picnic luncheon presentation, but we will find a way to give the student workers their awards and recognition. For those who are unfamiliar with the scholarships, Classified Council has been presenting them since the 1970s. We ask that classified staff who supervise student workers submit a recommendation letter and the student’s own letter for consideration by our scholarship committee. The letter soliciting applications for the scholarships will be going out in early May. I will be putting together a scholarship committee made up of current Classified Council members who indicated on their membership form that they were interested in being on the committee. You can also see photos of some of the previous recipients. Classified staff who want to get a head start might want to download the application and go over the criteria. Then keep an eye out for an email from me announcing the scholarship information and deadline for submissions! Student workers learn from us and a lot of the time, we learn from them. So, let’s give them some scholarships!
