On Monday, March 17 between 4pm and 5pm (before the Board of Trustees meeting) the Garfield Campus Donor Wall was unveiled to an audience of about 70 community and Glendale Community College friends. Mr. Alfred Ramirez, Administrative Dean of Continuing and Community Education, spoke about the many donations received for the Garfield Campus through the Donor Wall, recognizing Dr. Karen Holden Ferkich, Associate Vice President of Continuing and Community Education, retired, as one of the major donors.
Dr. David Viar, Superintendent/President, illustrated the history of the Garfield Campus and the many students who have been and continue to be served there. Ms. Ann Ransford, Board of Trustees President, told the audience about her relationship with the Garfield Campus and how she initiated the donor wall activity around the college when she was the Director of the Glendale College Foundation. Lastly, Mr. Mike Haney, current President of the Glendale College Foundation, shared his memories of the noncredit campus. Light refreshments from Porto’s were provided and the cake was cut and served by Mr. Andrew Feldman, Culinary Arts faculty.
Some who are represented on the wall are current and former administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Many who have passed away are memorialized on the wall. This wall, designed by Ann Simon, unites the community… a wall of skillfully placed silkscreened tiles that celebrate individual donor stories while honoring them in appreciation of their exceptional service, dedication and support to our institution. Their commitment helps sustain and inspire us as we work daily to bring our mission to life.
The Garfield Donor Wall is a collection of earth tone and teal mosaic tiles, each one bearing the names of donors who have pledged their service, dedication, and support to our educational vision—side-by-side the tiles create a beautiful work of art. More importantly, the wall represents a visual reminder of the positive impact that individuals, like you and I, can have on the continued education of our community residents.
