Chaparral 2019-2020: 28.3 Classified Council Notes

by Wendy Grove
Classified Council President

Fall is almost over, but Classified Council has two big fundraisers coming up!

Holiday See's

The Holiday See’s Candy fundraiser has begun. The items available for purchase are pictured below:

See's Winter Fundraiser

The Santa box, red snowflake box and the peanut brittle are $7 each and the lollipops are $1 each. Contact any board member to place an order. A sales table will be set up on campus with dates to be announced. The funds from the sale go towards the Student Worker Scholarships and we thank the college community for the ongoing support. Though we welcome having GCC employees stop by our table to get a stocking stuffer and support the cause, ordering early ensures that you receive the items you want before we run out.

Holiday Party

Classified Council members and non-members alike are invited to the annual holiday party fundraiser. The event is Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Acapulco restaurant in Glendale and is a popular Classified Council tradition. We have several raffle prizes, including gift cards and other great items. Find the details at and click on Holiday Party. You can print out the RSVP form and return it with $20 for current members and $25 for non-members. The RSVP deadline is Dec. 2. If you are not sure of your membership status, please go to and enter your name. We hope to see you at the party!

Ascencia presentation
November presentation featuring speakers from Ascencia

The theme of this Chaparral issue is collaboration. Well, collaboration is key to any success Classified Council has achieved with events and fundraisers. I want to thank everyone who attended or helped with the Halloween pizza party and pie-baking contest held for our members. It would not have happened without the help and participation of the Classified Council board. There is a photo gallery from the event on the Classified Council website. It was great fun!

Collaborating with organizations outside the college is key to providing important information on resources for students and the college community overall. Classified Council sponsored a presentation in November that featured speakers from Ascencia homeless services in Glendale. It was encouraging to see such a great turnout and that so many of the attendees were students. We look forward to having more of these kinds of presentations in the future.

I want to thank our membership, supporters and board members for everything they do for Classified Council year round. Thanks also to everyone who helps make our scholarship fundraisers successful by purchasing items and raffle tickets. It means so much to the scholarship recipients.

We will not have any events during the winter session, but you can always contact any board member with event ideas or questions and remember to check the Classified Council website at for updates. A new collage of photos from the upcoming holiday party will be added soon.
