Chaparral 2019-2020: 28.2 Classified Council Notes

by Wendy Grove
Classified Council President

Classified Council is hosting a membership event, the second annual Fall Pizza Party, on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room. Not a member? This is your chance! Sign up or renew at the party for only $7 for the entire academic year. If you are not sure if you have already paid for the current year or not, you can check your membership status on SharePoint. Go to and enter your name. You will be able to see if your membership is up to date. If you want to sign up or renew but are not able to attend the event, the membership form is on the Classified Council website at

Stop by anytime during the party, and enjoy some pizza and pose for photos with Halloween-themed props. Costumes are encouraged but not required. There will be a pumpkin pie contest again this year. Enter your homemade pie and have a chance to win a cash prize of $25. Sign up for the contest by contacting Wendy Grove at or ext 5161. Rules are simple: pumpkin must be the main ingredient of the pie whether it is a cheesecake, chiffon or other type of pumpkin pie. The judging will commence at 1 p.m. One more reason to stop by the party—The Food for Thought Pantry is in need of hygiene items like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc. The party is going to be a drop-off site for pantry donations. So bring what you can. If you are decorating your office for Halloween or Day of the Dead, please send me an email as we are compiling a list. Show off your creativity and we will let staff know where to go for a good scare!

The first fundraiser of the year was the annual Tupperware sale. The rep was on campus on Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A portion of the sales goes to Classified Council to support the student worker scholarships. Catalogs and order forms are available online at

The fall semester staff development event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Center with guest speaker Anjalika Nigam, Director of Development at Ascencia of Glendale. She will discuss homelessness in the community and services that can assist homeless students. Details will be coming soon.
