Current Project Stage: Implementation
We are creating an interactive curriculum to implement in elementary schools to provide kids with education on nutrition and how to live a healthier life. This will be implemented in Los Angeles first to see the results of how effective this program is. The teachers that will be in the classrooms will be high school students doing service hours. The curriculum will be including teaching children how to read nutrition labels, demonstrations and understand of portion sizes and recipes and methods of cooking. This program will happen for the full 6 months of school.
The program will also offer a website in order for children to go to and read, participate in competitions and will allow for interactive activities. The program will also include instructional videos from the high school students so that they can continue to learn at home.
The competition that children can participate in is one that children all over the city submit recipes and the winner will have their recipe on the website and compete along with the other children for a spot to compete in the show chopped kids.
This program will be helping the problem that young children face today in regards to bad health habits, diabetes, and being overweight.
