This guide will help you explore options for hosting and completing digital projects at GCC. If your digital project is part of a course, you will also want to consider other issues for using technology in the classroom including:

Storage Options at GCC

3C Media Streaming is one of the many services provided by TechConnect (3C Media Solutions) to Faculty and Staff of the California Community College system where videos are streamed for use on many computers and mobile devices. Stream instructional, informational or orientation videos using TechConnect (3C Media) Streaming services and enrich the online learning experience of students and staff. How To: Create an account at 3C Media using your GCC email address.

Note that:

  • "Unlimited" storage on 3C website through GCC
  • Use for media including video and audio
  • Does not automatically caption media (must upload transcript or caption file)
  • Provides public links and embed code

onedrive logoOneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) is a file hosting service that enables registered users to share and synchronize their files in the cloud. OneDrive is available for macOS, Android, and iOS and directly integrate with Microsoft 365 for Education products (Word, Excel, etc.).

How To: Your OneDrive is created along with your email. Login to Microsoft using your address to enable your account.

Note that:

  • "Unlimited" file storage options through Microsoft 365 for Education products
  • Files and folders can be shared with any public, GCC, or specific person via email or username
  • Video Storage App is called Microsoft Stream and creates captions and transcripts automatically. Videos CANNOT be shared publicly; they can be viewed by registered GCC users
  • Includes other multimedia tools including Microsoft Powerpoint and Sway for interactive portfolios and presentations.

google drive logoGoogle Drive

Google Drive is the storage solution for Google Apps. It offers the suite of Google products including Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Forms. Google Drive is available for macOS, Android, and iOS. It allows you to collaborate in Microsoft Office files without the need to convert file formats, and edit and store over 100 additional file types, including PDFs, CAD files, images, and more.

Note that:

  • "Unlimited" storage through GCC account
  • Files and folders can be shared with any public, GCC, or specific person via a link or through Google account
  • Students are very familiar with Google Suite through their own accounts; may be a good option for collaborative projects

CampusGuides for Digital Projects

springshare logoCampusGuides, also known as LibGuides, are online webpages created to share text, smaller sized documents, files, and videos all in one place. CampusGuides are available through the Springshare company which includes other applications like LibWizard, LibCal, and LibAnswers. CampusGuides are generally topical or themed and offer a variety of templates for different purposes. 

Note that:

  • CampusGuides have a limitation on file size of 10 MB per file uploaded to the page
  • CampusGuides can be shared publicly to anyone or using a private URL via a link
  • CampusGuides allow you to add Youtube videos, widgets, and other hosted media as assets in a shared library for later use
  • CampusGuides offer a variety of templates including galleries, different navigation schema, slideshows, etc.
