Chaparral 2012-2013: 21.4 Bereavements

It is with great sadness, I share that Armen Kocharian died, tragically, in a car accident just two days into the Spring semester. Mr. Kocharian began working at GCC, as an adjunct instructor NCESL (noncredit English as a Second Language), Fall 2010. Mr. Kocharian was a beloved colleague and teacher. He is remembered for his kindness, helpfulness, and dedication to his students. Colleagues indicated that Mr. Kocharian went above and beyond duty to provide excellent classroom teaching and learning experiences.

A Memorial Service for Armen Kocharian is open to all who wish to say goodbye. The service is scheduled for:

• Monday, March 11, 2013, at 9:30am, in the Church of the Hills at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills. A gathering will be held at 11:30am in the Hall of Liberty after the services.

Mr. Kocharian's family is in the process of setting up a fund in Armen's name through the Glendale College Foundation. Those individuals wishing to contribute, can contact the Foundation at X5199. Our thoughts are with Mr. Kocharian's family.

It is with great sadness that I share with the campus community, that Erik  Mercadé, son of José and Janice Mercadé passed away on February 5 by his  own hand. Erik was a smart, dynamic young man who suffered from depression  since the age of 16. José and his family have decided to share this  personal information with the campus so honest discussions, on the effects  of depression and its potential consequences, can occur.

The Mercadés have established the Erik Mercadé Scholarship Endowment Fund  at GCC in Erik's memory. This scholarship will support biology science  majors transferring to 4-year schools. Please contact the Glendale College  Foundation Office to contribute to this scholarship.

 Our thoughts are with José and his family.

It is with great sadness that I share the following news with you.  Eileen T. Ziegler, Mother of Tracey Ziegler and Scott Ziegler (DSPS), passed away on February 16th in NYC after a long battle with breast cancer.
