Chaparral 2024-2025: Nurturing relationships with outgoing garfield site representative andres cruz

With much gratitude Chaparral says goodbye to Outgoing Garfield Site Representative and Noncredit ESL Instructor Andres Cruz. We asked Andres what could be the next phase for the Guild and Garfield given his past experience in the role:

I would like to see the Guild continuing to build strong relationships at Garfield. These strong relationships with teachers are critical to building trust and respect. Once a sense of trust is established, we can then move toward common goals that will benefit the entire GCC community.

As a Guild representative, I have learned that teachers want to feel they can trust the Guild. Teachers tend to be more engaged, connected, and active at GCC when they feel that the Guild values their input and advocates for their rights.

Unfortunately, there are still many who may not be familiar with the work the Guild does and how the Guild works tirelessly for better working conditions at GCC. I hope that the Guild focuses more on outreach and nurturing strong relationships.
