Outreach Makes It Easier with Garfield Site Representative Andres Cruz

Some colleagues found it challenging contacting me to ask questions or share their concerns via email. It wasn’t easy for me to build a sense of trust via email/phone, especially with colleagues whom I have never met in person. I wanted to build rapport and create a culture of care between the Guild and colleagues at Garfield.

Therefore, I decided to conduct outreach at Garfield every Thursday to make myself available for anyone who has questions or concerns about their contractual rights and responsibilities. My motivation was to advocate for teachers/staff, and inform them about their rights working at GCC.

I am having a great time meeting new teachers, catching up with colleagues, and learning more about the non-credit experience and how this knowledge can inform the decisions of the Guild moving forward.

I hope colleagues know that their participation and trust are paramount. They can reach out to me, or any other Guild members, with questions. We are interested in serving you, so there is no need to be afraid to speak up.
