Accessibility at the Library and our Website

Welcome to GCC Library

As a part of our mission to recognize and affirm the identities and needs of our community at large as well as advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through our programs, services, collections, individual actions, and collective efforts, the GCC Library offers a variety of services and resources to assist users with disabilities. Anyone seeking assistance can also visit us in person at the Research Help Desk, reach us by phone, or contact us online via chat, Zoom, or email.

Getting to the Library

Accessible parking spaces are available on Level 1 of the GCC Parking Structure (Lot C) on College Driveway. For parking information, including maps, hours, and fees, see the GCC Parking website.

An elevator is located across the bridge from the GCC Parking Structure and provides access to Sierra Vista Plaza and Middle Campus, where the Library Building (LB) is located. The GCC Library is on the third and fourth floors of the Library Building (LB). The Library Building also houses the IT Department on the first level and classrooms and offices on the second level; entrances to these areas are separate from the GCC Library.

Technology

A computer reserved for users with disabilities is located on each level of the library. Each computer is located on an adjustable height desk. These two computers are Dell desktop machines with Windows 11 accessibility features as well as the following software:

Users can bring their own headphones or request earbud headphones at the Research Help Desk on the lower level of the library.

Accessibility Kits

Ask at the Research Help Desk or Circulation Desk to borrow an in-library-use accessibility kit that includes the following items:

  • Noise-cancelling ear muffs
  • Trackball mouse
  • Page magnifying glass
  • Ear plugs

Book Retrieval

Currently enrolled students and GCC employees can request print library materials via their OneSearch library account and pick them up at the library Circulation Desk, located on the right as you enter the library. For directions on using your library account, see the Your Library Account webpage.

Students registered with Disability Support Services should contact Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) for additional support accessing library materials, including electronic course reserves.

Library Instruction

Students requiring accommodations for library instruction or workshops will need to be registered with Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) and should notify their course instructor or the workshop coordinator before the library session.

Faculty requesting library instruction can provide accommodations information via our contextualized research instruction request form. The Library Instruction Lab (LB 313) has three tables that are accessible to users in wheelchairs.

Service and Assistance Animals

Service and assistance animals are allowed in the library as outlined in GCC campus policy.
