OER & Textbook Affordability at GCC

Mission

The mission of the OER Committee is to provide coordination and leadership to promote faculty use of OER and other zero- and low-cost alternatives to commercial textbooks. The committee’s goals include:

1. Encouraging the awareness, adoption, adaptation, and creation of OER materials across the college;
2. Providing guidance, training, and professional development for faculty considering OER, Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC), and Low Textbook Cost (LTC) options;
3. Advising on institutional policies and procedures for the use of OER, ZTC, and LTC; and
4. Supporting ZTC Degree Pathways for our students.

Composition

The voting membership of the Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee shall consist of one faculty member from each academic division and one faculty librarian. Members shall be appointed by their division. The OER Committee chair shall be appointed from this membership by the Senate Executive Committee. 

It is vital that members across the GCC community are involved with campuswide mission to encourage the use of OER. The work of this committee will thus require consultation with non-voting resource personnel, which may include representatives from the administration, ASGCC, Curriculum, ITS, the Library, the Bookstore, Student Services, Student Affairs, DSPS, SEA, Communications, Institutional Research, and other departments and divisions.

Meeting Schedule

On the second Thursday of September, November, March, and May from 12:30-1:30 pm (twice per semester).
