Information Competency Content at GCC

niche academy as a student or public user

Niche Academy is available to all students and library users via our Niche website link or by searching for Niche Academy (under "N") in the Library's A-Z database list. You can complete a tutorial at your own pace or, as an instructor, assign a tutorial to students in their own time. From the main page, you can browse through all the tutorials the Library currently has available. Clicking on a tutorial opens it for viewing and provides the URL for directly linking to that specific tutorial.  Our GCC tutorials have been sorted into categories like Research Essentials/How to Research:

Tutorials presented on the public page still include videos, quizzes, and knowledge checks BUT they are not connected to a specific course or course gradebook. Niche Academy will keep track of your progress on the public site if you login as a free user.

Questions about completing a tutorial in Niche Academy? Contact your Distance Education Librarian Aisha Conner-Gaten.

Navigating a Niche Academy Tutorial

To complete a Niche Academy tutorial, you will read, watch/listen, and complete possible quizzes or knowledge checks. To begin:

Select the tutorial you want to complete from the public website or from the Library's A-Z database list. Start the tutorial by selecting the "Start Tutorial" button at the bottom of the screen.

Move through the tutorial using the Back and Next buttons in the lower part of the screen. You can select the play icon in the center of tutorial pages to play videos. Each Niche Academy video has closed captioning, a transcript that can be turned on, and a speed option to slow down the video's sound (0.5x-2x).
