NO, not THAT type of bones... ;)
Throughout this semester we will analyze readings and learn how women in the United States have had to navigate cultural narratives and actual policies. We will cover themes such as politics, religion, family, work, education, etc. For this research paper, please think about an issue(s) that you find interesting and want to know more about.
What do we mean by Research Bones?
You will NOT be writing a complete research paper. Instead, you will be learning how to craft a good research question, how to find valid sources (which means no Google rabbit holes) to answer your research questions, and then how to craft a thesis statement. Your thesis statement is your argument, (or your answer) to your question. Basically, you'll be creating the "bones" of what makes a good research paper.
We will begin this assignment by:
- Thinking about our topic and crafting a question.
- We will then move on towards finding secondary sources (3 of them) and one primary source. Each source will need to have a Chicago Style citation.
- Your next assignment will be to reduce your source findings to one sentence.
- And your final assignment will be to use those sentences to create a thesis statement.
THIS CAMPUS GUIDE is designed to help you accomplish each of these steps.
The project is "scaffolded" meaning that you will be asked to complete one step at a time throughout the entire semester. You must complete one assignment with full points before proceeding on to the next assignment. All assignments are listed in our Canvas Page.
