Emergency Medical Technician Program at GCC
Upon completion of this skill award, the student will be able to administer appropriate emergency medical care to patients across the lifespan. The student will be eligible to sit for the state exam. Theis skill award provides students the opportunity for employment in introductory emergency services.

- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - EMTs and Paramedics
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics assess injuries and illnesses, provide emergency medical care, and may transport patients to medical facilities. Most EMTs and paramedics work full time, and some work more than 40 hours per week. Schedules may vary to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Their work may be physically strenuous and stressful, sometimes involving life-or-death situations. Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics typically complete a postsecondary educational program. All states require EMTs and paramedics to be licensed in the state in which they work; requirements vary by state.

The National Registry, established in 1970 as a non-profit organization, is the Nation’s Emergency Medical Services Certification organization. As the EMS certification organization, we ensure that all EMS clinicians have the knowledge and skills required for competent practice.
