A guide to the 2024 elections

PRIMARY ELECTION IS MARCH 5, 2024

On the March 5 primary election, you will be voting for your political party's candidate for President of the United States as well as candidates for United States Senator, your Congressperson in the House of Representatives, and your representatives in state and local government. There will also be several ballot measures - proposed legislation to be approved or rejected by eligible voters.

IMPORTANT DATES: 

February 5 Vote-by-Mail ballots mailed

February 6 Vote-by-Mail secure drop boxes open

February 20 Last day to register to vote for the Primary Election.  However, same day vote registration is available in person at the County Elections Office or a voting location.

February 24 Vote Centers in Los Angeles County open for in-person voting

March 5 Primary Election. Last day to vote in-person or return a Vote-by-Mail ballot. Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why vote? 

With 12% of the country's population, California is the most populous state in the nation. Because of this, California voters will play a crucial role in the nominating process. Elections can be decided by a handful of voters. By exercising your right to vote, you will be helping to shape the future. From the economy and health care to the environment and human rights, the stakes are high. Make your voice matter!
