ESL 125 - Listening and Speaking II - Alford

This guide was created to help ESL 125 Students with Prof. Alford with their Animal Communication assignment.

Words To Use To Search for References

When searching for evidence for your slides, also called sources, you will need to make a list of words you can use related to your topic of animal communication.

Synonyms, or a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language, will make up your list.

For example, my slides will be about how elephants communicate.

My list of synonyms to search for evidence about the elephant may include:

  • elephant (my topic)
  • African elephant (a specific type of elephant)
  • Asian elephant (a specific type of elephant)

My list of synonyms to search for evidence about communication my include:

  • animal communication
  • vocalization (another word for making sounds)
  • sound
  • sound production (another word for making sounds)

I can take these words and search for my sources.
