According to PEN America, a group that advocates for free expression, last year, lawmakers in 26 states introduced “educational gag orders,” of which have become law. These legislative restrictions are intended to stifle the teaching of race-related concepts, including CRT, as well as issues related to sex, gender, and American history, PEN America said. Three more have done so thus far in 2022.
