The death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022 sparked outrage and renewed attention to the ongoing struggle for women's rights in Iran. Amini died in police custody after being arrested by Iran’s morality police for violating the country's strict dress code. Her death has been widely condemned by human rights organizations and activists both inside and outside of Iran. It has also prompted renewed protests and calls for change in the country's treatment of women.

Below is a curated selection of titles about the women's rights movement in Iran. Our selection includes titles from Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson's list of "10 Books to Read to Learn About Women's Plight in Iran" published by National Public Radio in 2022. Many are memoirs by women who were forced to flee Iran.
