The death of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022 sparked outrage and renewed attention to the ongoing struggle for women's rights in Iran. Amini died in police custody after being arrested by Iran’s morality police for violating the country's strict dress code. Her death has been widely condemned by human rights organizations and activists both inside and outside of Iran. It has also prompted renewed protests and calls for change in the country's treatment of women.
