ESSAY TOPIC
How do you envision achieving a Zero Waste future at GCC and beyond?
Current students please submit your original work, responding to the question posed above and formatted as described below.
SUBMISSIONS MAY TAKE THE FORM OF
- a creative essay,
- persuasive argument,
- analytical essay,
- research paper,
- dramatic work,
- fiction or nonfiction narratives,
- Other media may be considered, if accompanied by a written submission that describes the motivation for the work, its conception, process of creation and meaning.
FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
- PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME ON YOUR SUBMISSION
- Maximum three pages, doubled-spaced, 12-pt font.
- Any material copied from another source MUST be appropriately cited.
- Plagiarized submissions will be disqualified from consideration
- Include a Works Cited List page your submission

SCORING GUIDELINES
- Submissions will be scored anonymously by GCC faculty according to the grading rubric.
WHEN WILL I KNOW IF I AM A WINNER?
We are all winners when we work together to build a sustainable way of life.
Winners of the essay competition will be announced at the Sustainable Earth Round Table Discussion to be held Thursday April 11th, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM, and prizes awarded as follows:
- First prize earns $300
- Second prize earns $200
- Third prize earns $100
At this event, we will discuss projects to help move GCC toward Zero Waste practices. One project will be selected to be implemented over the 2019-20 school year.
