Short Stories

Learning about the art of fiction begins with an examination of "The Short Story".

We will explore elements such as point of view, character, setting, tone and style, theme, symbolism as well as take a look at African American and Latin American short fiction.

Drama

Glengarry Glen Ross is David Mamet's 1984 Pulitzer Prize winning play.

The play follows four desperate Chicago real estate agents prepared to engage in unethical, illegal acts to sell undesirable real estate to unwitting buyers.

Poetry

From closed to open form, we will be exploring a myraid of poetry by examining tone, word choice, imagery, figures of speech, irony, sound, and rhythm.

We are also fortunate to experience an in-class reading from GCC English Professor and poet Bart Edelman.

The Novel

The greatest casualty is being forgotten. ― Wounded Warrior Project

In an attempt to have a better understand of our own wounded warriors coming home today, we will be reading Tim O'Brien's classic war story The Things They Carried.
