APA 7: Guiding Principles

Here are some examples of how to format both an in-text citation and reference using APA 7th Edition. All examples are adopted from the GCC Library's APA Style for References, 7th Edition: A Brief Guide.*

For sources with three or more authors, format your in-text citation like this:

(Nager et al., 2016)

You can also format an in-text citation by writing the author's name in a signal phrase and then putting the date in parenthesis:

Nager et al. (2016) write . . . 

The data reported by Fried & Polyakova (2018) shows . . .

Adams (2004) highlights . . .

* For your paper, reference citations should be double-spaced with a hanging indentation.
