Chaparral 2018-2019: 27.6 Accreditation Update

Accreditation Update

by Beth Kronbeck
Faculty Coordinator of Accreditation & Planning

Wow! It has been three years since I’ve updated the Campus on Accreditation.  As you may recall, we had our site visit in October 2016.  We did NOT have to complete an 18-month follow up as we received Reaffirmation of Accreditation at the highest level (see Dr. Viar’s letter from Feb 7, 2017)[1].

And because it has been three years, that means that GCC is now currently working on our Midterm Report.  The Midterm Report consists of three major sections:

  • Progress Response for “Recommendations For Improvement”

When the October Site Team left, in their report where we were awarded Reaffirmation of Accreditation, they also wrote 8 separate suggestions for areas of improvement.  We need to let the ACCJC know what progress we made on their suggestions and provide evidence of said progress.

  • Progress Response for “Plans Arising Out of Self-Evaluation Process”

If you were a writer for our 2016 ISER, you may remember this section well.  As we were answering how we were meeting the Standards, if we found areas where we felt there could be improvement, we wrote that we were going to make a plan to remedy it.  Well, the ACCJC would like to know if we acted on those plans.  Similar to Recommendations for Improvement, we need to provide evidence for what we have done, but this section of the report can be reported in “Chart” form.

  • Progress Response for “Quality Focus Essay”

At the time of our site visit, the QFE was a relatively new concept and it was understood to be a mechanism in which to report a College’s BIG plans for improvement.  GCC’s QFE listed our lofty goals for Learning Outcomes and our goals for doing a better job of integrating our college plans.  In the three years since our visit, the ACCJC has clarified that the QFE is supposed to be the College’s plan for “moving the needle” on student success.  With this new information, GCC was given permission to write our Progress Response for the QFE on the work that we have done during the past three years to improve student success.
