I have been teaching hand-built ceramics at GCC for the past 11 years. My specialty or what I truly enjoy working on is sculpture and surface design.

This sculpture was selected to be featured on the cover of “500 Figures in Clay” book by Lark Publications.
Working on one of the large sculptures, it was constructed with slabs and coils with sculptural clay body which has lower shrinkage during drying and firing. You can see the same sculpture in the kiln after the firing has cooled down. 2013

Fired at Glendale College. This is a variation of the traditional Japanese Raku Ware called “Naked Raku”, where slip and glaze are applied on top of smooth white bisque fired ceramics in order to resist the carbon during the reduction process. The carbon is what paints the surface black and through various techniques you can control the pattern making.
Working on series of small figurines, some of those were scaled up to 5’ tall. For the smaller scale my preferred method of forming is building solid and hollowing out in preparation for the firing. 2016
