Rachel Ridgway (Oceanography & Geology) would like to share that the Sustainable Earth Project just awarded over $1,000 among five students in the inaugural Sustainable Earth Essay Competition. This year's theme was Zero Waste (and the winning submissions will soon be available at www.glendale.edu/zerowaste).
Over 50 people – students, staff and faculty – attended the Round Table Discussion where winners were announced. All contributed to an ongoing conversation about how we can move our community toward more sustainable practices – a conversation that will continue over Earth Week and beyond!
The winners are shown in the photo, from left to right
1st Place – Angelu Lesaca
2nd Place – Natalie Orphali
3rd Place - Natalie Moussesian (not pictured)
Honorable Mention – Karen Lopez & Melineh Mansour Cheharmohali
The GCC Office of Communications and Community Relations received multiple honors during the CCPRO’s (Community College Public Relations Organization) awards dinner on April 11 at the organization’s annual conference in San Diego. Representatives from many of the 114 California community colleges were on hand when GCC was recognized for the following:
1st place (Category: Digital Advertising) for a digital media campaign that pushed ads to electronic devices owned by people who had driven near GCC’s Verdugo Campus. The ads emphasized the college’s convenient location right off the 2 freeway near Highway 134. Link to pre-roll video version.
2nd Place (Category: Feature Story) for a video produced for the college’s Sports Hall of Fame banquet in October. The video focused on GCC’s elite cross country program and the overall philosophy of the Athletics Department.
3rd Place (Category: Banner/Outdoor Media) for the window coverings at the former Citibank building in Montrose touting the planned arrival of GCC classes at that location.
3rd Place (Category: Wild Card) for the design of the backdrop used during GCC’s annual commencement ceremony held each June on Sartoris Field in the school’s stadium.
