Spring 2019 Physical Activity Challenge
5 weeks: April 22nd through May 28th

Since this issue is all about communication, here is an important communication about the Physical Activity Challenge you can participate in over the next month!

Compete to achieve your weekly physical activity goals for fun and prizes! Recruit your coworkers (even your boss!) and your whole team could win! Join any time up until the last week!

Did I mention that the grand prize raffles include chair massages for your whole team?


Register your team here: Wellness Activity Challenge Registration Form

Gather a few friends (min 2 people, max 6 people).

Register your team and nominate your team captain.

  • Select your individual goal:
    1. Achieve 10,000 steps/day for 5 days of the week (track using a smartphone app, fitbit, or pedometer).
    2. Achieve 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous (must get you out of breath) exercise/week (see tracker form)
    3. Earn 300 MEPs (MYZONE Effort Points) per week
  • Track your activity and submit it at the end of the week to your team captain, or simply use your MYZONE heart rate monitor and watch the MEPs rack up!
You may only register with one team, but you can also register for only the individual competition if you’d like. If your team doesn’t win the drawing you will also be entered in the individual raffle.
  • 1 team and 1 individual drawing will be held at the end of each week for $10 gift cards.
  • 1 team and 2 individual drawings will be held at the end of the program for the grand prizes (see below). Each week your goal is completed = 1 grand prize raffle entry! (max 5 entries, no double winners)
  • Team Grand Prize: Chair massage scheduled for your team (20 min each)
  • Individual Grand Prizes: $50 Amazon gift card or 20 min chair massage
You must sign the  liability waiver and pre-activity assessment.
Physical activity can be done on campus via the Wellness Program workshops or on your own. Activity done on the weekends also counts!
How to track your activity for each goal – choose only one
  1. Achieve 10,000 steps/day for 5 days of the week (track using a smartphone app, fitbit, or pedometer).
    To track: take a picture or screenshot of your total number of steps at the end of the day. When you reach 5 days, email your team captain the pictures (they must also have the dates on them). Or, use the tracker form (see option 2 below).
  2. Achieve 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous (must get you out of breath) exercise/week. *Must be in blocks of at least 10 minutes at a time
    To track: Use the tracker form (click the link to download) to log your exercise, and submit the tracker form for each week once you reach your goal. Remember, the exercise must be intense enough to raise your heart rate and get you slightly out of breath. You can use the talk test to be sure: you should be able to hold a conversation but you shouldn’t be able to sing at this level of comfort.
  3. Earn 300 MEPs (MYZONE Effort Points) per week
    To track: get your MYZONE heart rate monitor using the staff/faculty order form (half of the cost is paid by wellness funds). Register your HR monitor:

Register Belt:

1. Go to
2. Click on Register Belt
3. Click on English
4. Type the following:

  • Facility Code – gcus001
  • Unique Belt ID – On the back of your monitor is a number – example SN1234567
  • Email Address – You can put any email address that you want. This is for your use.
  • Password – Create a password
  • Add me (Erin Calderone myzone nickname: mamago) as a connection.

Each week you complete 300 MEPs you should also receive a congratulatory email from MYZONE!

To turn in your physical activity for each week (Mon-Sun) and be entered in the raffle, please email your screen shot or tracker form to by 7 p.m. on the following Monday, or leave the form in my campus mailbox. Raffle winners will be drawn on Tuesday.
Week #1: April 22nd – April 28th
Week #2: April 29th – May 5th
Week #3: May 6th – May 12th
Week #4: May 13th – May 19th
Week #5: May 20th – May 26th
