English 101 - FRESHMAN ENGLISH - Groper

When I was registering for my Fall 2016 classes, there were a lot of English 101s that I could have taken.  I took Dr. Groper's because it's convenient for me in terms of time.  I probably should have asked some of my friends if they knew anything about the class.  Getting my friends' advice can be very helpful when I'm considering classes.  If I'd asked around, I would've been more prepared for what I was getting myself into.  I've never taken a class like hers.  I don't mind the reading workload, but I wish I'd known how weird she is!  She's obsessed with all the little details in the stories we read, like what the child says when it's locked up in its room in “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.”  That's Ursula K. Le Guin's short story about how people's selfishness allows them to commit terrible acts.  It was okay, but I preferred Shirley Jackson's story “The Lottery.”  I thought everyone was going to listen to Mr. and Mrs. Adams when they were talking about giving up the Lottery, but they didn’t, and everyone got really excited when it was time for Tessie Hutchinson's execution.  So far I'm really enjoying the books in The Hunger Games' trilogy.  Waiting to know which of the children's names will be called in the reaping, and then finding out the tributes' fates in the Games is all very suspenseful and exciting.  I don’t always like Katniss' attitude or the way she plays with Gale and Peeta's hearts, though.  So I like the readings.  Now I just need to get my essays' scores up.  Clearly fixing my apostrophes will be the first step!
