Just in time for Spring, CSEA has a new president, Nonah Maffit! We asked Nonah to give us some updates from the past year and some things to come. Here's what she had to share with us:
In February, CSEA Chapter 76 resumed its monthly meetings exclusively in person. Two years ago we came back for our students. It was time to be here for each other – and what a reunion we’ve had! The warmth and the smiles were real. The teasing and the laughter were familiar. We met those who recently joined our family. They experienced what it meant to have a voice, to be union-strong. We discussed campus issues, budgetary challenges, and personal concerns freely, in a more private environment.
The coming months will be bittersweet for us as we prepare to wish 34 of our own a most well deserved and blissful retirement. Some will retire in June and the rest, in December. It’s already becoming difficult to imagine the college without them. They may go, but their stories will never leave us.
In April CSEA will host the annual classified retreat. It has traditionally been held on the Monday and Tuesday of Spring Break to minimize work disruption and maximize participation. This year the retreat will be at the Garfield campus, with professional and personal growth workshops and activities.
Each May, California salutes the invaluable contributions of classified school employees during Classified School Employee Week (CSEW). This year, we will be celebrating the theme: Empowering Generations.
We hope you will join us in recognizing the hard work of our classified professionals and their commitment to our students.
