Chaparral 2022-2023: 31.4 Accreditation Update

Spring 2023 Accreditation Update

by Stacy Jazán, Faculty Coordinator of Institutional Effectiveness

As an accredited college, GCC’s programs and services have met standards of quality established by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC). In December, GCC submitted its institutional self-evaluation report for its next accreditation evaluation. The report provides evidence that GCC meets all 127 of the ACCJC’s standards. In January 2023, an external peer review team began its evaluation of GCC’s report and evidence and will later conduct an in-person site visit in Fall 2023, during the week of September 25. On March 14, the team hosted a virtual open forum for the college community.

What can we expect next?

  • April: GCC works to respond to formative input from the external peer review team.
  • September 25-27: External peer review team conducts in-person site visit at GCC.
  • February 2024: GCC is notified of its accredited status.

Why are we doing this?

Well, it all boils down to our students. By retaining its status as an accredited college, GCC can continue to award degrees and certificates that are recognized by universities and employers, our students can receive financial aid, and our students will be assured that GCC’s programs and services are of high quality.

Thanks to all who have participated in the accreditation process so far!
