Returning to CampusAdministration Building

Welcome back for Fall 2022! Whether you are on campus or fully online this semester, I hope you’ve had a fruitful start. It’s exciting to head to campus and see students and colleagues in the flesh, and while there are obviously still some kinks still to work out with the return to campus, as always, the GCC community seems committed to finding the best path forward that will benefit everyone.

This month’s issue of Chaparral focuses on our return to campus: how it’s going, what we can do better, the challenges we face, and more. In Faculty United, we see the results of an ethics of care for our students; in the Senate Update, there is discussion of how to address enrollment issues; Classified Council Notes shares fundraising and scholarship information; Adjunct Junction addresses concerns about teaching face-to-face and the benefits of raising the workload cap for part-time faculty; meanwhile, you can find all the latest tips and best practices for committee work in Governance Tidbits, and upcoming wellness events in Our Wellness. In addition to our regular columns, this issue also includes several articles that discuss the return to campus in more depth, with suggestions for how to best move forward. Finally, we once again have reading recommendations in the What Are You Reading? column, and we celebrate our colleagues’ successes in Milestones! Whatever your thoughts and feelings are right now regarding our return to campus, I hope that you find the contents of this issue illuminating, thought-provoking, and helpful in this important ongoing conversation.

Sincerely,

Joanna Parypinski
