Chaparral 2022-2023: 31.3 Letter from the Editor

Letter from the Editor

by Joanna Parypinski

The theme of this issue is Staying Connected. If that phrase sounds familiar, it’s because that is also the name of another GCC publication put out by the Office of Communications. I was delighted to be contacted by Drew Sugars this month to answer some questions for the November Issue of the Staying Connected newsletter. Getting to chat with Drew reminded me of all the ways we stay connected with each other both on and off campus, so I thought it would be fun to connect our two publications this month by focusing the November issue of Chaparral on these connections and how we foster them.

In this issue, you’ll find articles on:

  • Getting involved with the Guild in Faculty United
  • A Senate Update about connection and empathy in times of strife and disagreement
  • Information about the See’s Candies winter fundraiser in Classified Council Notes
  • Helping English language learners stay connected remotely in Garfield Matters
  • Part-Time Faculty Healthcare initiative updates and unemployment benefits in Adjunct Junction
  • Connecting for the holidays with the CSEA Connection
  • Dispelling governance myths in Governance Tidbits
  • Connecting with your body in OUR Wellness
  • Connections across divisions in the Building Bridges column
  • And, of course, your milestones and what you’ve been reading!

This publication is, of course, another way that I hope faculty and staff across GCC can stay connected with each other. Please enjoy this month’s articles – and stay connected!

Happy holidays,

Joanna Parypinski
