Credit ESL Online Educational Resources (OER): Listening/Speaking

This is a great source for beginning to intermediate readers. It provides audio files along with texts, so the reader can here the correct pronunciation. The files can be used in as supplemental materials in reading classes.They can be assigned to students as independent activities where students can read and listen to the story at the same time. The recordings are well-produced and accompanied with a script so that the students can read along. The vocabulary and comprehension questions are not extensive. However, given that the recordings tend to be between one and two minutes, they might be all that is necessary. Some recordings include a share section which asks students for their opinion. There are a few fun videos to watch here. It could be a fun means to supplement a course.

Beginner level 1 has 52 lessons and is most suitable for ESL 115. The beginning level 1 material contains all of the focus areas for ESL 115: pronunciation practice, vocabulary building, grammar, oral communication, listening comprehension. All that is missing is cross-cultural exercises. There are some fun interactive videos best suited for L/S courses.
