Classified Council Corner

Spring is a busy time for everyone on campus and Classified Council is coordinating more activities than ever before.

We are encouraged by the good response to our new Get Moving series.  We have been fortunate enough to have help from several places in getting this series of physical activity events up and running, so to speak.  We must thank biology professor and division chair Keith Conover for leading our nature walks/hikes in the trails above the campus.  Also, we owe much gratitude to Dora Krannig of the dance department for allowing us the use of the Sierra Nevada Gym dance studio for our zumba classes.  We also thank Suzy Sargsyan for leading the zumba classes and getting folks really moving.  Erin Calderone of the kinesiology department has been very gracious in volunteering to lead our park/track walks.

The Get Moving events are open to everyone and most earn Flex/CPGU.  The March schedule is as follows:

  • March 11 at 10 a.m. Walk in the Park--Led by led by kinesiology instructor Erin Calderone.  Wear comfortable shoes. Bring water.  Meet in front of the Administration Building.  All are welcome.
  • March 13 at 2:30 p.m.  Zumba with Suzy Sargsyan.  Dance Studio
  • March 25 at 12:20 p.m.  Nature walk with biology professor and dept. chair Keith Conover.  Wear shoes suitable for dirt trail. Bring water.  Meet at top of the stairs near the parking structure elevator tower.
  • March 27 at 2:30 p.m.  Zumba with Suzy Sargsyan.  Dance Studio

Keep an eye out for our emails announcing each event and try to join us for some exercise.

March is Women’s History Month and we have something special planned.  Peggy Renner will be giving a presentation on women in GCC history.  The tentative date is March 31, but an announcement on that event is coming soon.

And of course we’ll have our usual spring events and activities.  There will be the See’s Candy spring fundraiser coming up around the end of March to raise money for student worker scholarships.  In May, we’ll have the Classified Employees Week basketball game and Bingo games as well as soliciting for scholarship applications and nominations for board elections.  The Classified Council picnic will be in June.

We look forward to your participation in all of our events and fundraisers this spring.
