OUR Wellness Program is for ALL GCC employees.

Yes, that means you too!

Isn’t it time to schedule a few minutes for ourselves? To take the stationary bikes for a SPIN during our lunch hour, to start a little burn in our muscles at the fitness center, to breathe and flow under the stars in the Planetarium, or to sip a refreshing fruit and veggie smoothie while walking through the Plaza?

At GCC, excellence is not just an ideal – we practice it. GCC is premier because our people are premier! We deserve to be good to ourselves just as we are to this great campus and community. Here are just some of the ways we can focus on OUR Wellness this semester:

Lifestyle Fitness Center Hours

The lifestyle fitness center (VG 117) is open for students enrolled in PE 101, 102, 103 or 104 and staff/faculty during the following hours:

M/T/W/Th/F 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
M/T/W/Th 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Weight lab hours (VG 2)

M/T/W/Th 8:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Fridays 9:10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Staff/Faculty Hours

Staff/Faculty hours in the Lifestyle Fitness Center (not open to PE 101-104 students)

Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. **extended hours through 12/14**

Indoor Cycling Workshop (VG 107)

Mondays and Wednesdays 12:20 - 1:20 p.m. (begins 9/20 through 12/13)

Planetarium Workshops

Wellness Wednesdays 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. (Qigong, Yoga and more!)

Rest and Recharge Fridays 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. (come relax under the stars!)

Wellness Lecture Series

Activity Challenge Kick-off!

September 26th, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. in SG 137

(Future Lecture Series dates/topics TBA)

Activity Challenge

Activity Challenge 2017! (Starts October 1st – November 5th)

Compete to achieve your weekly physical activity goals for fun and prizes! Recruit your coworkers (even your boss!) and your whole team could win!

Gather a few friends (3-5 people are required for each team, but individuals can also participate).
Register your team and nominate your team captain.
Select your individual goal:

  1.   Achieve 10,000 steps/day for 5 days of the week (track using a smartphone app, fitbit or pedometer).
    OR
  2.  Achieve 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous (must get you out of breath) exercise per week (see tracker form)
    OR
  3. Earn 300 MEPs (MYZONE Effort Points) per week

Track your activity and submit it at the end of the week to your team captain, or simply use your MYZONE heart rate monitor and watch the MEPs rack up!

P.S. EARN FLEX!

Up to 6 hours of FLEX (20% of obligation) may be earned by participating in the physical activity programs above or by using the Lifestyle Fitness Center during regular hours. FLEX and CPGU may also be offered for the Wellness Lecture Series.
