CLASSIFIED COUNCIL CORNER

The beginning of the holidays is upon us, and I would like to wish all of you a very Happy Holiday! I hope you had a good Thanksgiving. October was a great month for Classified Council. We had a wonderful lecture presented by Wendy Fonarow, and I learned even more about the history of Halloween; the Halloween Office Decorating Contest was terrific, with four offices at the main campus and two offices at Garfield campus participating. Student Services won at the main campus with their “GCC Sanitarium,” and Elodia Collins won at the Garfield campus. I would like to thank our three student judges, Tatiana Ratavosian, Arman Marukyan and Juan Llano, for donating their time for this fun event.      Now, I am going to put on my “Pollyanna” hat and talk about what I am thankful for. I am thankful that we have the opportunity to express ourselves through an open forum such as our college email. I am thankful that when one expresses an opinion in response to another’s, the opinion is respectful and professional.  We all have our opinions about the state of affairs here at Glendale Community College, and we do not agree on every decision or policy; however, we are a team, and we do continue to work together in order to do our jobs. I am thankful for our democratic process, and I am especially thankful for the leaders who speak on our behalf (CSEA, Guild, Senate, Division Chairs) and do everything in their power to see that we are treated with respect and dignity.  Which brings me back to Classified Council: I am thankful that Classified Council is a group that recognizes and includes everyone on campus.  Have a great holiday. Remember to count your blessings, and we will see you in the New Year. &
