Garfield Library Collections

The Garfield Library includes a limited collection of books geared to support the Non-Credit ESL and Continuing Education Business courses. The Garfield collection includes graded readers arranged by level; materials for language support, including subject-specific non-fiction titles; skills improvement materials including math, reading, science, and computer skills; job and career success; GED Preparation and more.

ESL Graded Readers

Graded Readers are abridged titles written in simplified English and arranged by LEVEL and TITLE of the book. The levels are color coded, and correspond to the GCC Non-Credit ESL Department's course levels. Click on the appropriate level for a list of ESL books arranged by level and title.

ESL Language Support and Continuing Education Business Collection

Non-graded readers are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal classification system. The Library has a selection of:

  • Textbooks, workbooks, readers to support grammar, pronunciation, accent reduction, listening and speaking, and vocabulary development.
  • Biographies of key figures in history
  • Books on American culture, United States History, World History, arts, music, social issues, science and more.
  • Business Communication and workplace skills
  • Skills improvement including computers, math and science
  • Job and Career success, including books on interviewing and creating resumes and cover letters
  • GED Preparation

Circulation Policy

  • Patrons may check out up to 10 items at a time.
  • Materials are checked out for a period of two weeks. 
  • Materials can be renewed twice for an additional two weeks each time. 
  • Patrons must have a valid ID (usually a student ID card or CA driver's license) in order to check out materials.
  • Students must be registered for a current or upcoming session to have borrowing privileges.
