As we get farther into the fall semester, we are also moving into a major fundraising period for Classified Council and the Student Worker Scholarships.  

On the scholarship fundraising front, we held our annual Tupperware sale on campus in Oct.  The flower bulb and herb garden fundraiser concluded in Oct. as well.  Thank you to everyone who participated.  We will have the See’s holiday fundraiser coming up.  It is always one of our most successful fundraisers and it is thanks to the entire campus community that we are able to raise funds for our scholarships.

But we aren’t just about fundraising!  We have our annual holiday party coming up on Thursday, Dec. 10 at Acapulco in Glendale.  There will be announcements and RSVP forms coming soon.    

Classified Council’s Get Moving series will continue with more activities this fall and into spring.  As the weather cools, kinesiology instructor Erin Calderone will switch the Monday walks in the park from the morning to 12:30 p.m.  They will continue through December 7.  The switch to the later walk time will begin in November.  Look for the announcements in your email.  We will try and plan more Get Moving events through the year based on the availability of the volunteers who lead our activities.  Those who can’t walk for the full half hour are welcome to only take a partial walk.  Even a short walk is healthier than being sedentary.  Remember to bring comfortable shoes and water.  

Classified Council is continuing fall membership renewal and sign-up.  Current members should renew now. For anyone who has never been a member of Classified Council, we encourage you to join us.  Though membership is primarily for classified staff, we do have Friends of Classified Council who pay the membership fee and are able to attend our events.  Some of our faculty friends have also volunteered to give lecture presentations on topics of interest to our members.  There are membership brochures available on the Classified Council website at http://www.glendale.edu/index.aspx?page=6022.  It only costs $7 per year.  If you want to know more about our organization, please feel free to ask me or any of our board officers:  Vice president Jenny McMahon, Treasurer Patricia Chamroonrat, Secretary Merrilee Ahaus and members at large Olga Tovar, Frankie Strong, Ann Simon, Sharis Davoodi and Angine Aslanian.
