The end of the academic year is almost here and with that, comes the Classified Council End-of-the-Year Picnic. This year it will be held on Monday, June 6 in the Student Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Current Classified Council members get in free, non-members pay $10. Please RSVP by June 2. Aside from the wonderful lunch prepared by the culinary arts department, the main event is the presentation of the Classified Council Student Worker Scholarships. Thanks to all of the support campus-wide, we were able to fundraise enough to give out $1,250 in scholarships. The recipients were selected by a committee of Classified Council members and they will be presented with a check, certificate and free lunch at the picnic. We would love to see as many people as possible at the event to hear about our amazing recipients. They are each very impressive and very much appreciated by the staff that work with them. We can’t wait to give them some much-deserved applause.
Classified Employees Week recently ended and we had a couple of really fun events. Our annual Bingo games and the employee vs. ASGCC basketball game were a very entertaining way to celebrate classified employees. We thank everyone who helped out with the events and those who attended. You can view some photos of the events at the Classified Council website. The ASGCC may have won this year, but I’m sure a rematch is coming next year and perhaps a different outcome! And for the foodies, the CSEA hosted a wonderful barbecue.
The year may be coming to a close, but activities for our Classified Council membership are not over. Based on input from our members, it appears that of the off-campus activity ideas proposed, walks at Brand Park had the most positive response. It’s free, not too far from campus and is open after work hours, at least long enough to enjoy a refreshing walk and the company of co-workers. So once we have made it past the commencement ceremony on June 8, we will set a date for an after-work walk in the park. If we get enough participants, we would love to add more dates and places to walk or hike. Once it gets too hot, we may try doing something else.
